What Eckhart Tolle, Ayrton Senna & Lewis Hamilton Have In Common! – Legends Report

After the 2016 Monaco Grand Prix I thought it would be a good time to look at how someone racing at 180mph around the principality does so, and what we can learn from them to apply to our own lives!

Ayrton Senna is a driver that almost any Formula 1 fan will know. He took the sport into the modern era of driver fitness and is widely regarded as the greatest driver of all time. It was however, his mind and focus that helped him to drive the car at such great speed with all the accuracy needed to achieve the fastest lap. But how did he achieve such great driving and such a keen racing ability?

Ayrton Senna, through his personal beliefs and physical training developed ways to get into this moment, to get into the now and put aside anything that didn’t help him get into the lead and stay there. For him there was no thinking of anything else in his life while he was behind the wheel of his car!

As the spiritual teacher Eckhart Tolle explains in his book ‘The Power of Now’;

“The reason why some people love to engage in dangerous activities, such as mountain climbing, car racing, and so on, although they may not be aware of it, is that it forces them into the Now —that intensely alive state that is free of time, free of problems, free of thinking, free of the burden of the personality. Slipping away from the present moment even for a second may mean death. Unfortunately, they come to depend on a particular activity to be in that state. But you don’t need to climb the north face of the Eiger. You can enter that state now.”

We don’t need to go racing to enter this moment right here and right now. We don’t need to threaten our lives, but the essence of what Eckhart Tolle is sharing here is exactly the same for us as it is for Ayrton Senna, Lewis Hamilton and everyone else who’s office moves at 200mph!

Legends have worked out how to enter this place of present moment awareness when they want to make decisions or focus on a particular task like driving. It can be as simple as taking a few deep breaths…

When we choose to focus only on ourselves and what we are doing – for example, keeping and directing our attention onto our breathing – we are able to bring out the best in ourselves and put that into what we are doing with extraordinary results!
