The Need To Respect Politicians | Tim Peake’s Return | John McEnroe’s New Role – Legends Report
By Tom Hasker, Associate Partner, Lighthouse International
There are those who decide to put themselves forward to make a change in the world. MP Jo Cox was one such person, who decided to dedicate her life towards creating a better society. She, like many people who decide to go into politics, had a vision and an idea of how our society can be better for everyone.
As political sketchwriter Michael Deacon comments in the Telegraph;
“As a rule, MPs are decent people with honourable motives. They go into politics with the aim of changing lives for the better. They may not always succeed, and they may be forced into unhappy compromises, and they may fall short of the ideals they set out with. None the less, most of them go into the job for good reasons.”
What we need to consider is what do we expect from our politicians? Do we see them as human beings or as automatons that do not have feelings and are just there for our use? Read the powerful full article in the Telegraph here…

John McEnroe’s New Lease of Life
By Tom Hasker, Associate Partner, Lighthouse International
Tennis player Milos Raonic, set to become the world no. 8 this week, has recently hired the legendary John McEnroe to help him improve his tennis – but so much more than that. As Mr Raonic says,
“It’s fun, it’s really nice. [John McEnroe is] probably the most energetic 57-year-old I know. We laugh. We share a lot in common off court. He loves art, as well, and he has a lot more experience in it than I do… It’s more about showing my presence… Sometimes I can be too calm. Just sometimes to let the guy know who is on the other side of the net that I’m there, I’m ready to play. That can wear on a guy throughout a long match if it’s close.”
So much of our lives are focused on youth, on living for today, fearing a future of old age, mental illness and isolation. John McEnroe is a great example of how we have so much value to add through mentorship as we get older and wiser; so many experiences, mistakes and achievements that we can share with others, giving us and them, even more meaning, direction and purpose in our lives.
How can you have more purpose in your life? More drive getting you up every day? Click here for a great video.
