Let The Games Begin – Rio 2016! | Russia’s Olympic Turnaround | Olympic Special Tweets – Legends Report

The 31st Summer Olympic Games will be the first to be held in South America. It will bring the world to the city of Rio De Janerio and to the country of Brazil. In the build up there has been security and health concerns around the games. These include the Zika virus and a possible shooting by a Russian diplomat of a man who tried to rob him.

For the 11,000 athletes at the games, these concerns will not get in the way of their commitment to themselves and to the years of training and support from people close to them. The opening ceremony will see Andy Murray carry the flag for Team GB which he describes as;

“…by far the proudest moment of my professional career”.

This thought will be shared by every athlete who attends the opening ceremony and walks into the stadium tonight. This is the gratification they receive after the discipline of training, working and developing themselves mentally, emotionally and physically for at least the last 4 years. A true legend knows when to appreciate these moments between the hard work has been done and the competition that can now begin. It’s a great time for us all to take inspiration and look at our own lives – what goals can we reach for? What training can we get started with?

How would most people respond when faced with a massive setback? What do we do when we are humiliated and criticised by everyone we know?

Earlier in the year, the Russian Olympic team were on the verge of facing a blanket ban for serious doping misconduct in prior Games.

Now, 271 of the original 389 athletes will compete in the Rio 2016 Games.

The Russian Olympic Committee president has stated that,

“The Russian team may have experienced the toughest checks of the Olympics, because they had to go through multiple tests and checked… on top of all that, Russian athletes are going through additional testing which is taking place at the Olympic Village…. So, as of now, the Russian team is probably the cleanest in Rio.”

However, the Russian team perform, the fact that they have gone through rigorous tests to earn their place at the Olympic Games – as the cleanest team there – is transforming their reputation. It’s an example of how some of the hardest experiences we go through in life can become some of the biggest opportunities. It’s why when legends are face to face with some of their hardest challenges in life, they try their best to actively look for the opportunity, instead of giving up.
