98-Year-Old Dunkirk Veteran Moved To Tears As He Watches New Film

A humbling dose of inspiration...

“Tonight I cried because it’s never the end. It won’t happen. We the human species are so intelligent and we do such astonishing things. We can fly to the moon but we still do stupid things… So, when I see the film tonight, I see it with a certain kind of sadness. Because what happened back then in 1940, it’s not the end.”

This was the plea to humanity that Ken Sturdy made after he watched Christopher Nolan’s new film Dunkirk. Mr Sturdy found the film so realistic that it brought back emotional memories from his time in the harrowing Dunkirk beach withdrawal of British men in World War 2. In the deeply humbling video below, he talks about us as a human species and how we don’t learn from our mistakes. How we continually repeat a cycle of violence and war.

He calls for us all to be part of the change and even if we can’t change things on a bigger scale, we can change things in our own lives…

We can all ask ourselves whether we are continuing to repeat cycles of behavior that are negative to ourselves and others and we can all try and change our attitudes and behaviours. The sacrifices made by brave men like Ken Sturdy have led to many of the freedoms we hold dear today, so we have a duty to our future generations to make our homes and communities the most nurturing places they can possibly be.
