It may be seen as a means to intimidate the opposition, but when you look deeper into its origins, you’ll see there is a great deal of meaning to this tradition.

The Haka originates from the Māori people of New Zealand. The dance was performed as a means to intimidate the opposition in battle, but it also communicates messages of self-awareness, responsibility, respect, facing challenges and living with passion. Principles which are true of many legends throughout history. This video is definitely worth watching regardless of whether or not you are a rugby fan and if you watch New Zealand in the World Cup final next week, you will know much more of the meaning behind the Haka.
