Have you ever felt like there are invisible barriers stopping you from truly expressing yourself? Like a glass wall in between you and the world?

Time and time again we’ve seen the ability that a mentor, someone who helps us in a time of need, to overcome these barriers and go on to do incredible things with our lives.

You may well have seen this clip from the British documentary series, Educating Yorkshire, in which a young boy, Musharraf, was plagued by a terrible stammer. His teacher, Mr Burton, was a persistent force in helping Musharraf, or ‘Mushy’, overcome his stammer and get the grades he wanted. If you haven’t seen it, check out this incredible transformation. At the start of this clip, we see people judging and loathing Mushy for his stammer, to the ending where every single person is moved by this triumph of the human spirit. Isn’t it possible that we are all, more or less, getting so caught up in being busy, trying to get stuff done that we can sometimes snap at each other and we forget our own humanity?

We forget that we are all the same – we are all fragile, we all want to be better. We want to see each other thrive. We want each other to do well in life. This is the power of the human spirit, and we see it time and time again.
