Katelyn Ohashi, Her Reaction To Her Perfect 10 Viral Video!

We recently shared a video of Katelyn Ohashi’s perfect ten-floor routine which went viral in a matter of days. Here she is again, this time in an interview on Good Morning America, with her coach, Valorie Kondos Field, Miss Val.
She shares how, at the age of 14, while still growing as a young woman, she had to deal with criticism about her weight and how this affected her and her love for gymnastics. She went on to join UCLA’s gymnastics team, under the guidance and mentorship of her coach, Miss Val, who helped her to recapture that love she had when she was a child.
Miss Val shares how she gets the best from her girls, by treating them as people and not just as gymnasts. How she focuses on the person first to get the best out of them and on their abilities as a gymnast second.
As she says: “I have always believed, that you coach the person before the athlete, it’s just like parenting. Gymnasts have to have safe spaces, that is why I don’t talk to them about gymnastics outside the gym, they have to know I care about them first as a person.”
Miss Val is an inspiring mentor and coach, and you can see the love and admiration she has for her girls.
Miss Ohashi is also a poet and shares a very powerful one that she wrote. You can’t help but feel pride for this young gymnast, someone who has shown great courage and is able to show her love and passion for it in her routines.
