Andy Murray Says Ivan Lendl The Best Coach He’s Worked With
Mentoring is a fundamental ingredient to success that we see time and time again in legend’s lives. World Number 2 tennis player Andy Murray is no stranger to getting the right mentors and coaches on board and he’s been speaking to the Telegraph this weekend about why he has reunited with former tennis legend, Ivan Lendl. He gives an insight into how Mr Lendl’s experience and attitude to failure helped Andy Murray during his most successful 12 months when he won the Olympic gold medal, Wimbledon and the U.S Open. They will both be hoping for a repeat of this success running up to this year’s tournament at SW19:
“Ivan is the best coach I’ve had. Because in sport you base how good someone is on results, and the results I had with Ivan were the best. At the time I had never won a grand slam. Ivan had been through a lot of the same things that I had, and speaking to someone like him, someone who seemed to be incredibly strong and mentally tough, it was good to know he felt sick before grand-slam finals and had failed many times.
He lost 11 grand-slam finals. I have lost eight, which I would rather not have done, but there are better players than me who have lost more. It was good to have someone like that who could normalise failing, make it OK to lose, rather than it just being like, “Oh this is a disaster.” With Ivan, it was all about learning from mistakes, learning from losses.”

Why Exercise Is Good For Your Brain
Legends know to keep themselves in peak condition mentally and emotionally they need to be pushing themselves physically. As the Guardian published this weekend:
“A wave of studies exploring the unexpected links between mental and bodily fitness is emerging from labs. This research might give you the impetus to get more active. It can also help you choose the best ways to prepare physically for mental challenges such as exams, interviews and creative projects.
The part of the brain that responds strongly to aerobic exercise is the hippocampus. Well-controlled experiments in children, adults and the elderly show that this brain structure grows as people get fitter. Since the hippocampus is at the core of the brain’s learning and memory systems, this finding partly explains the memory-boosting effects of improved cardiovascular fitness.”
