How many times have you heard someone say “I don’t have time to do that because I’ve got the kids?” It’s understandable right because children are a huge responsibility for anyone and possibly the hardest job in the world. Imagine then, being a mum to a one-year-old and five-year-old and being a gold-medal winning athlete!

Jo Pavey is about to compete in her 5th Olympic games, a record for any British athlete and she shows us how anyone can achieve anything no matter what their life situation is. Not only that but in the run up to the games on Friday, she has said that being a mum has motivated her even more!

“As a mum it’s made me enjoy my running more. It’s made me feel happy in my personal life, I feel like I’ve got that balance and it does make me enjoy running. The needs of the kids change and the way we can train as a family changes.

It used to be my husband with a little boy on the back of a bike, but now my little girl goes on the back of the bike and my little boy’s like a training partner now – he just whizzes ahead of me on his bike and I can’t keep up with him.

It’s really kept my motivation going at this old age that I am now.”

Jo Pavey is a great example of how you can balance responsibilities no matter what the circumstances are. She has found immense meaning and purpose in raising her family and this has led her to find solutions to still compete at the top level, a hallmark of a legend. Read the full story at the BBC here…
