Legends Report – Gary Lineker Grateful to Be Wrong | Earth, Wind & Fire’s Positivity | Spared by the Hitmen With Values

I was wrong and it thrills me to say so. This is why I’m not a pundit. I love Claudio Ranieri! https://t.co/YxWWCo6c6B

For anyone who’s been following the English Football Premier League this season, you will know it’s been an incredibly unpredictable one with one team standing head and shoulders above the rest. Leicester City were bottom of the league last Christmas and now sit right at the top of it having just beaten favourites Manchester City 3-1 in their own back yard! Ex-England striker Gary Lineker has been a long-time Leicester fan as he was born in the city. He was initially opposed to the appointment of Claudio Ranieri as Leicester City manager, claiming he was “an uninspiring choice”. However, like all true legends it’s great to see Mr Lineker admit he was wrong publically on Twitter.

It’s a fundamental principle of all successful people that they admit their own flaws and take responsibility. Even if in this case the outcome is a very positive one for Mr Lineker and the team he supports! Here’s more on Leicester’s incredible rise to the top…

We reported recently on the death of Maurice White, the founder of legendary 70s band ‘Earth, Wind & Fire’. What many of us may not know however are the positive values that stood behind the band’s iconic hits like “September” and “Let’s Groove”. A young Michael Jackson could even be found in the audience of their concerts taking notes from their spectacular performances.

The BBC have a wonderful feature on the positive message of harmony that Maurice White wanted to promote:

“From my youngest days, I always felt certain affinities with the idea of being a preacher,” said bandleader Maurice White, who has died at the age of 74.

“Being joyful and positive was the whole objective of our group. Our goal was to reach all the people and to keep a universal atmosphere. All of our songs had that positive energy. To create uplifting music was the objective.”

We talk a lot on the Legends Report about how successful people cultivate and maintain positive, upbuilding and progressive attitudes and nothing demonstrates this better than Mr White’s own words. I recommend the full article on the BBC here…

Having strong values is often associated with positive outcomes, however, as author Stephen Covey wrote in his acclaimed book ‘The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People’ – “even a gang of thieves can have values”.

In a truly harrowing tale told to the BBC, Noela Rukundo shared the story of how her husband had paid hitmen in Burundi to kill her after he became jealous about her supposedly going off with another man.

She eventually survived as the gunman refused to kill women and children. They felt it was wrong to do so even though they had been paid for the job.

As the gang’s leader ended the call to Kalala [her husband], Noela was coming round.

“I said to myself, I was already dead. Nothing I can do can save me.

But he looks at me and then he says, ‘We’re not going to kill you. We don’t kill women and children.'”

While it is a very disturbing story, it contains a powerful lesson for us all. That we can be true to what is important to us in life even under the most extreme of circumstances. Read more at the BBC…
