Gary Lineker – Pants Or Shorts? | Graduates Low Earners After 10 Years | Scotland’s Wind Power Breakthrough – Legends Report
By Jairaj Singh, Mentorship Coach, Lighthouse International
Making and keeping a promise is the fastest way to build character strength said Stephen Covey in his acclaimed development book The 7 Habits of Highly Effective People. Gary Lineker then is setting an example for all of us this weekend then. 🙂 He tweeted last year that if his beloved Leicester City Football Club won the Premier League he would present the BBC’s flagship football program Match of the Day in his underwear.
Well, they did win and…..he did present the show in his pants (or some would say shorts) and you have to applaud his integrity to his word.. 🙂
Will he won’t he? 😳 Eyes peeled! 👀 @GaryLineker’s back with @BBCMOTD tonight 10:30pm @BBCOne. ⚽️ #MOTD #PantsPromise pic.twitter.com/CfgRuLzteW

As we see time and time again, successful people don’t always come from traditional educational backgrounds. Just take Richard Branson, Steve Jobs or Bill Gates. They all dropped out of formal education yet continued their own informal education journey through life-experience and mentorship. The Guardian published an article this weekend which shows how important it is for us to continue to invest time, money and effort to learn, grow and develop once we finish formal education. A LEO survey found that after 10 years of work, the average graduate salary in the UK is just £31,000:
“The statistics are fairly clear,” said Alice Barnard, chief executive officer of the education charity the Edge Foundation, which champions vocational education. “Immediately after graduation, many graduates are either in jobs that didn’t require a degree or didn’t require the level of education they had got themselves to. They have invested not only time, energy and effort but also quite a lot of money and potentially come out the other side without the jobs they perhaps expected to get.”
Barnard pointed out that an apprentice who completes a two-year course with Jaguar Land Rover can expect to be earning around £30,000 immediately, without having incurred any debt.
“Ten years down the line, if you’re earning a huge amount you can say, ‘well, I do feel that was value for money because my degree has taken me to this point’,” she said. “What is concerning perhaps is that, 10 years after, graduate salaries stand at £31,000, which for a higher apprenticeship for companies like Jaguar Land Rover is fairly common after, say, two years.”

Scotland Powers Itself For a Day On Wind Power Alone
Wind power had a great day this week when, on Sunday, Scotland produced enough to power itself for an entire day! https://t.co/cXOigqdjlz
— Al Gore (@algore) August 12, 2016
“Strong winds combined with low demand on a sunny summer Sunday help Scotland reach ‘significant milestone’ on path towards ditching fossil fuels entirely. For the first time on record, wind turbines have generated more electricity than was used in the whole of Scotland on a single day.”
– The Independent
It’s important to celebrate small landmarks and especially when trying to reverse the effects of climate change. This week was one of those landmarks for Scotland. Climate change can seem impossible to overcome given the pollution we as human beings have already pumped into our atmosphere, but it will only happen through small baby steps. It’s like any goal in life, every small step enables us to achieve whatever we are aiming for. Read more here…
